Biography

Born in Nizhny Novgorod, Russia on March 5, 1991, Daniil Trifonov is a classical pianist who achieved international fame at a very young age and is praised highly for his showmanship and skill. Born in Russia, he won first prize in the Tchaikovsky Competition in 2011 and appeared that year performing Tchaikovsky at New York's Carnegie Hall with Valery Gergiev and the Mariinsky Orchestra. His first solo recitals in New York in 2013 and 2014, which also included pieces by Stravinsky, Debussy, Ravel and Schumann, made him an immediate favorite with critics and audiences alike. Daniil Trifonov has performed complete Rachmaninov concerto cycles at the New York Philharmonic's Rachmaninov Festival and with London's Philharmonic Orchestra and played most of the classic piano works with orchestras in Chicago, Boston, Cleveland, Philadelphia, Montreal, Rome, Berlin, and Stockholm. His solo recitals have been heard from Wigmore Hall, Royal Festival Hall and Queen Elizabeth Hall in London to the Musikverein in Vienna, Suntory Hall in Japan, the Salle Pleyel in Paris, the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C., and many others around the world. Now based in New York, Daniil Trifonov has played at the festivals at Tanglewood, Verbier, Baden-Baden and Salzburg and at the BBC Proms in London. His Grammy Award-nominated live album The Carnegie Recital (2014) reached Number 18 on the Billboard Classical Albums Chart and later that year, Daniil Trifonov Plays Frederic Chopin went to Number 15. Rachmaninov Variations with the Philadelphia Orchestra, also nominated for a Grammy, reached Number 10 in 2015. Transcendental: Daniil Trifonov Plays Franz Liszt peaked at Number 4 in 2016 and Preghiera: Rachmaninov Piano Trios went to Number 25 in 2017. Daniil Trifonov’s 2017 tour - focusing on selections from his album Chopin Evocations - would take him to Italy, Spain, Luxembourg, America, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, France, the Netherlands, Ireland, England, Canada, and the United States. Daniil Trifonov’s album Schubert: Trout Quintet (2017) reached the Top 20 in several countries as did 2018’s Destination: Rachmaninov – Departure. The following year, Daniil Trifonov’s released Destination: Rachmaninov – Arrival in 2019. He followed that album with Silver Age, which was released in November 2020. Almost exactly 11 months later, he issued the album Bach: The Art of Life (2021).
