The Stampeders (or Stampeders) are a Canadian rock and folk-rock trio who began in 1964 as The Rebounds in Calgary. The group included Rich Dodson, Len Roemer, Brendan Lyttle, Kim Berly, and Race Holiday. By 1965, they renamed themselves The Stampeders, and by 1968 transitioned to a trio with Ronnie King on bass. They moved to Toronto in 1966. In 1971, the band achieved widespread success with "Sweet City Woman", which won Best Single at the Juno Awards and reached number right on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart. The Stampeders signed with Polydor Records for US distribution and produced notable hits like "Hit The Road Jack" in 1976. They had seven top 10 hits in Canada. Rich Dodson left in 1977, leading to line-up changes before the group disbanded in 1980. The classic trio reunited in July 1992 at a concert during the Calgary Stampede and released Rock the Road Again in 2001. In November 2011, The Stampeders received the Lifetime Achievement Award from SOCAN in Toronto. Ronnie King passed away on 4 March 2024.
