Youth Group

Youth Group, an Australian rock band based in Newtown, New South Wales, was formed in Sydney in 1996. The founding members included Toby Martin on rhythm guitar and vocals, Danny Lee Allen on drums, Andy Cassell on bass guitar, and Paul Murphy on lead guitar. Their first show took place in November 1997 at the Warren View Hotel in Enmore. Youth Group's sound is reminiscent of indie rock artists such as Teenage Fanclub, Pavement, and Death Cab for Cutie. The band released their debut album Urban & Eastern in May 2000. Their breakthrough came with the release of Skeleton Jar in March 2004, which gained wider attention when it was released in the US by Epitaph Records in 2005. In 2006, their cover of Alphaville's "Forever Young" reached Number 1 on the Australian charts and attained platinum status. The band supported notable acts such as Coldplay, Kings of Leon, and Interpol on their tours. Youth Group won the ARIA Award for Breakthrough Artist - Single for "Forever Young" in 2006. Following the release of The Night Is Ours in June 2008, the band took an extended break but reunited in late 2014 and released Australian Halloween in October 2019. Big Whoop, the band's sixth studio album, arrived on October 31, 2025.
