Bassist with Pixies from 1986 to 1993 and again from 2004 to 2013, Kim Deal formed The Breeders with her sister Kelley Deal in 1989 and The Amps in 1995. Born Kimberley Ann Deal in Dayton, Ohio, on June 10, 1961, she taught herself guitar and began composing and singing with her sister. It was through an advertisement that she became bassist for Pixies, led by Frank Black, who went on to establish themselves as one of the major bands on the American alternative scene, with the albums Come On Pilgrim (1986), Surfer Rosa (1987) and Doolittle (1989). During a hiatus in 1988, she formed The Breeders, who recorded the albums Pod (1990) and, after a return to Pixies, The Last Splash (1993), which proved an international success thanks to the track "Cannonball" . Her next project, The Amps, produced just one album, Pacer (1995), while Kim Deal collaborated with This Mortal Coil and Sonic Youth. After reuniting with Pixies, she performed her first solo concert at London's All Tomorrow's Parties festival in 2012 and recorded several confidential singles, before reforming The Breeders in 2016. She collaborated with Courtney Barnett before unveiling her first solo album, Nobody Loves You More, in 2024, where she is accompanied by her sister and rich string and brass arrangements.
