S.P.Y.

S.P.Y (real name: Carlos Barbosa de Lima Junior) is a São Paulo-born, Bristol-based producer and DJ renowned for his pioneering contributions to the drum & bass scene. With a career spanning over two decades, S.P.Y has firmly established himself as one of the most influential figures in the genre, renowned for his impeccable production skills and innovative approach to sound. S.P.Y's early musical journey began in São Paulo, Brazil, where he developed a passion for electronic music before moving to the UK. He quickly immersed himself in the vibrant Bristol music scene, a city known for its rich legacy in bass-driven genres. Drawing inspiration from both the dark, atmospheric edges of drum & bass and the soulful depths of liquid funk, S.P.Y’s versatile sound straddles the boundary between techy rollers and emotional, melodic moments. His breakthrough came in 2012 with his debut LP and first release for Hospital Records, What The Future Holds. Throughout his career, S.P.Y has consistently demonstrated a unique ability to blend intricate, rolling basslines with euphoric melodies, creating an unmistakable style that resonates deeply with fans of all types of drum & bass. Beyond his impressive catalog of solo releases, which include critically acclaimed albums Dubplate Style (2019), S.P.Y has also collaborated with a range of respected artists and labels, from Ram Records to Metalheadz. In December 2024, he released the single "Spire," with "Alien Bass" on the flipside.
