Brandy Clark is a contemporary country singer-songwriter. Born in Morton, Washington on 9 October 1975, she played the guitar and sang in local bands before moving to Nashville in 1998. There she graduated with a music business degree at Belmont University and concentrated on songwriting. Her first big success was in 2009 when Reba McEntire recorded Clark's songs "Cry" and "The Day She Got Divorced" on the album All the Woman I Am. In 2011, she had more success as Ashton Shepherd sang "Tryin' to Go to Church" and Miranda Lambert scored a big hit with Brandy Clark's song "Mama's Broken Heart." That year, The Band Perry had a number one hit with another of her songs, "Better Dig Two." Brandy Clark was starting to make a name for herself as a solo act, supporting Sheryl Crow on tour and releasing the Brandy Clark EP in 2012. She made her solo album debut with 12 Stories in 2013, featuring the single "Stripes." Her strong voice and songs earned much critical acclaim. She continued to write for other artists, contributing material to albums by Miranda Lambert, Reba McEntire, and Toby Keith in 2014 and Kacey Musgraves' album Pageant Material in 2015. Her second album was Big Day in a Small Town in 2016, featuring the single "Girl Next Door." She released the album Your Life Is a Record in early 2020, the lead single being the atmospheric "Love Is a Fire." Three years later, she landed at number three on the UK Country chart with her fourth studio album Brandy Clark, which featured guest appearances from Derek Trucks ("Ain't Enough Rocks"), Lucius ("Tell Her You Don't Love Her"), and Brandi Carlile ("Dear Insecurity"), the latter winning Best Americana Performance at the 2024 Grammy Awards.
