Tompall Glaser, born September 3, 1933, in Spalding, Nebraska, was the eldest of the Glaser brothers who formed the American country group Tompall & the Glaser Brothers. The trio began performing at local fairs as preteens, and their first significant break came in 1957 when they appeared on Arthur Godfrey's Talent Show, attracting attention from established country stars such as Marty Robbins. They signed with a major label in the early 1960s and released their debut single "She Loves the Love I Give Her" in 1959, followed by "Gone, On the Other Hand" (1966) which helped establish their presence on the Billboard Hot Country Singles chart. The group recorded ten studio albums between 1960 and 1975, achieving nine charting singles, and became members of the Grand Ole Opry in the 1960s. After a hiatus from 1973 to 1978, they reunited in 1979 and issued Loving Her Was Easier, which peaked at number 2 on the Billboard country charts. The brothers also founded Glaser Sound studio in 1970, fostering songwriting and production for other artists. Chuck Glaser suffered a stroke in 1975, prompting a shift toward business ventures, while Tompall and Jim continued touring and recording solo projects. The group performed a final tribute to Hank Snow at the Grand Ole Opry in 1990. Tompall Glaser died August 13, 2013; Jim Glaser died April 6, 2019, and Chuck Glaser died June 10, 2019.
