Death, an American punk rock trio from Detroit, Michigan, was formed in 1971 by brothers Bobby Hackney (bass, vocals), David Hackney (guitar), and Dannis Hackney (drums). Initially known as Rock Fire Funk Express, the band changed its name to Death in 1973 after their father's passing. The trio recorded seven songs at Detroit's United Sound Studios in February 1975, which were later released on ...For the Whole World to See by Drag City Records in 2009. Despite initial struggles and a lack of commercial support, Death is recognized as one of the first all-black punk rock bands. Their self-released single "Politicians in My Eyes" b/w "Keep On Knocking" saw a limited run in 1976. The band disbanded in 1977 but reformed in 2009 following renewed interest in their music, leading to subsequent album releases including N.E.W. in 2015. David Hackney passed away from lung cancer in 2000.
