bôa are British alternative rock band, best known for their song “Duvet,” which gained international recognition as the opening theme for the anime Serial Experiments Lain (1998). Formed in the early 1990s in London, originally as a funk band, bôa's sound blends elements of alternative rock and indie-rock, marked out by introspective lyrics. The band feature a unique lineup that includes Jasmine Rodgers (vocals) and Steve Rodgers (guitar), both children of legendary rock musician Paul Rodgers, along with Alex Caird (bass), Lee Sullivan (drums), and additional musicians contributing to keyboards and programming. bôa released their debut album, The Race of a Thousand Camels (1998), which was later reissued under the title Twilight for the North American audience. Though not widely known in mainstream music circles, the band developed a cult following, particularly among fans of anime and alternative music. Their introspective and dreamy style, combined with Jasmine Rodgers' haunting vocals, set them apart in the 1990s alternative rock scene. The group’s creative output largely remained within underground and niche markets, but their influence continues to resonate with fans of both alternative rock and Japanese pop culture. After a few years of activity, bôa went on hiatus in 2005 but they enjoyed a new lease of life in 2021 when "Duvet" was re-discovered by the TikTok community and they released a new album three years later, Whiplash.
