Biography

Andy Lau Tak-wah (born on September 27, 1961), also known as Andy Lau, is a Hongkongese actor and one of the most recognised Cantopop artists of all time. Holding an impressive world record of 292 music awards under his belt, Lau has scored several hits not only in Cantonese but also in English, Japanese, and Mandarin. His first brush with fame came in the early 80s with his role as Yang Guo in the series The Return of the Condor Heroes, after which he went on to be featured as lead actor in the Shaw Brother’s On The Wrong Track (1983) and Wong Kar-wai’s As Tears Go By in 1988. He launched his music career in 1985 with the LP Only Know that I Still Love You and had his big breakthrough moment with the Mandarin crossover blockbuster Cannot - Who Said No? (1990), which included the hit single “Would It Be Possible.” During the 90s and 2000s, Lau released at least an album a year, in both Cantonese and Mandarin, winning several RHTK awards for his work. Following the release of Unforgettable in 2010, the singer took a break from the spotlight and no new material was released until 2018, when he surprised his fans with the single “My Love.” Two years later, he announced the release of a new album entitled Continue to be Beautiful (2020) via a live stream on the eve of his 59th birthday.
