Pitchshifter

Pitchshifter are one of a number of bands who, whilst not enjoying significant mainstream success, built up successful careers on the back of their music being taken up by the video game industry. In Pitchshifter's case it was having their music used on the soundtrack to the hugely successful games 'Test Drive 5' and 'Mortal Kombat: Annihilation' which projected the band into the platinum-selling big league. Pitchshifter's driving, electronic rock is reminiscent of early Prodigy and provided the aggressive, high energy musical backdrop beloved by the games industry.

In 1998 the band released their fourth and most successful album, 'www.pitchshifter.com'; it sold 60,000 copies in the US alone and three of the tracks featured on another video game, this time 'Twisted Metal 3'. In 2000, one of the band's founding members, lead guitarist and programmer Johnny A. Carter, decided to leave and after a lacklustre sales performance by the band's next two albums Pitchshifter went into an indefinite hiatus.

Since 2002, the various members have concentrated on outside projects, although an appearance at the Wakefield Rock Festival in 2010 sparked rumours of a comeback. It wasn't until 2016 that the band tweeted a suggestion of a UK tour.
