Biography

Born on 9 July 1991 in Gävle, Swedish singer and songwriter Clara Hagman, known professionally as Clara Mae, got her start as a member of Swedish pop group Ace of Base in 2009, after garnering national attention on singing competition Next Star, where she wowed with her performance of the Whitney Houston classic "I Will Always Love You." Replacing former members Jenny and Linn Berggren, she was an active member of Ace of Base until 2012, with whom she released the album The Golden Ratio. In 2014, she stepped out as a solo artist, christening her new Clara Mae stage name with first single "Changing Faces" and following it with "Avalon" in 2015. In 2016, she was featured on the Steve Void & No Mondays song "Chemistry" and released another solo single, "Strip." She found chart success in Sweden (number 70) and on the Billboard Hot Dance/Electronic Songs (number 21) with "Taped Up Heart," which was co-written with Kream. She appeared at the Eurovision Song Contest 2016 as a backing vocalist for Gabriela Gunčíková, who represented the Czech Republic that year, and signed to Big Beat Records (an imprint of Atlantic Records) the following year. Her first major-label release arrived that November via "I'm Not Her," with the Sorry for Writing All the Songs About You EP following in 2018. She spent the next two years largely working on collaborative projects before issuing her debut solo album for Big Beat, Drunk on Emotions, in 2020. The following year, she released the singles "Någon annan" and "Not Sad Anymore." In 2022, she unleashed a new single, "Take Me Home," recorded with the producer duo Vavo, which reached number 37 on Billboard's Dance/Mix Show Airplay chart.
