Faithful to his chosen pseudonym, the American rapper known as Big Scarr had his fair share of literal scars before his meteoric rise to fame. Born Alexander Woods on April 7, 2000, in Memphis, Tennessee, he survived a car wreck at 16 that nearly ended his life and was involved in an almost-deadly shooting shortly after launching his career as an MC. Encouraged by a childhood friend, he made his official debut with the 2019 single “Make a Play,” whose accompanying video amassed over a million views on his video streaming channel. This success caught the eye of Atlanta rapper Gucci Mane, who swiftly signed him to his 1017 label. His hot streak continued with the track “SolcyBoyz,” a collaboration with fellow 1017 artists Pooh Shiesty and Foogiano that was featured on the blockbuster compilation Gucci Mane Presents: So Icy Summer (2020) and was picked up by many specialized media outlets. That same year, he dropped the singles “Endzone” and “Frozone,” and appeared on the 2021 compilation So Icy Gang, Vol. 1 with the track “SolcyBoyz 2,” featuring Pooh Shiesty, Foogiano, and Tay Keith. In 2021, Big Scarr scored his first charting effort with his debut mixtape Big Grim Reaper, which peaked at Number 25 on the Billboard 200. A deluxe edition titled Big Grim Reaper: The Return hit the shelves in 2022, featuring guest spots from Offset, Gucci Mane, and Queeze Ruthless. Unfortunately, his promising career was cut short by an accidental prescription drug overdose on December 22, 2022. The Secret Weapon, his posthumous studio debut, climbed to Number 43 on the Billboard 200 in 2023.
