Although they hail from Glasgow, Scotland, the rock band The Fratellis had a sound steeped in raucous British rock. The trio consisted of bassist Barry Fratelli, singer and guitarist Jon Fratelli, and drummer Mince Fratelli, and they took their stage names from the antagonists of the kids film The Goonies. The indie-minded group played a fast style of rock inspired by glam and punk. They began performing in 2005 and in just over a year issued their self-titled debut EP, scoring their chart hit with “Henrietta”, which went to Number 6 in their home country and Number 19 on the UK chart. That single would appear on the 2006 debut album, Costello Music. Their sound drew comparisons to contemporaries like Arctic Monkeys and Babyshambles, and proved popular enough to land Costello Music at the top of the Scottish album charts and at Number 2 in the UK. The singles “Chelsea Dagger” and “Whistle for the Choir” went top 10. Such was their success that they captured the 2007 BRIT Award for Best British Breakthrough Act. 2008’s Here We Stand may have sold less, but it still gave them three more top 10 Scottish singles including their first Number 1, “Look Out Sunshine!”. A three-year hiatus in 2009 led to a waning of their popularity in the UK, but they remained huge in their home country. Their next three albums all reaching at least Number 11 on the chart, including a Number 2 finish for 2018’s In Your Own Sweet Time that showcased their continued popularity. They began the 2020s with the cheekily-titled Half Drunk Under a Full Moon in 2021.
