OFF is a German electronic dance music project and an important representative of the so-called Sound of Frankfurt. It was founded in 1985 in Frankfurt am Main by Sven Väth, Michael Münzing and Luca Anzilotti. The name OFF stands for Organization for Fun. The project combines elements of synth-pop, new beat and electronic dance music and shapes the scene of the late 1980s in Germany. OFF released the debut single "Bad News" in 1985, followed in 1986 by the single "Electrica Salsa", which established itself as an international hit in the charts and made Sven Väth better known. In the summer of 1988, the first album Organisation for Fun is released, the title of which also explains the meaning of the band's name. The second studio album Ask Yourself followed in 1989, from which the single "Move Your Body" emerged as a noteworthy track. Other singles from this period include "Step by Step", "Harry ... but now", "Time Operator" and "La Casa Latina". Stylistically, OFF moves between electronic dance music and pop-affine sounds characterized by catchy rhythms and synthesizer arrangements. The project disbanded at the end of 1989 after the demand for acid house sounds declined and musical preferences shifted. A re-release of the album Organization for Fun was released in 2016 as a deluxe edition on double CD, but is primarily aimed at collectors.
