Edelweiss

Edelweiss was created in 1988 in Vienna, Austria. The producers behind the project are Martin Gletschermayer, Matthias Schweger and Walter Werzowa. The project combines house, Eurodance, pop and electronic club music with humorous and folkloristic elements. In 1988 Edelweiss released the single "Bring Me Edelweiss". The title is based on samples from "SOS" by ABBA and motifs from The Sound of Music. The single becomes an international success. It reaches number 1 in the charts in Austria. The song also reached the top 10 in Germany, Great Britain and several other European countries. The releases of Edelweiss are among the early European pop hits with extensive sampling. In 1989, the album Edelweiss was released with further dance and pop productions. However, other singles such as "Starship Edelweiss" and "Raumschiff Edelweiss" do not achieve the popularity of the debut hit.
