Prophets of Rage are a rap rock supergroup formed in 2016 by former members of the bands Rage Against the Machine, Audioslave, Public Enemy and Cypress Hill. The band were formed against the backdrop of a controversial election year in American politics and this provided an ideal opportunity to promote their brand of rap-orientated protest songs. Guitarist Tom Morello has well known political views and the release of the band's first single, 'Prophets of Rage' was timed to coincide with a protest gig staged by the band outside the Republican Party's National Convention. A few months later the band embarked on a national tour of the States with a show titled 'Make America Rage Again'.
Their debut album was released in 2017 to a mixed critical reception, with a number of reviewers lamenting the absence of Rage Against the Machine's Zack de la Rocha from the line-up. The band's musical pedigree means they already have a huge and loyal fan base who are unlikely to pay too much attention to unfavourable reviews. Morello's distinctive guitar style ensures previous fans of Rage Against the Machine and Audioslave will find a familiar feel to the band's material.
