After many years of experiencing the musical world from different angles, percussionist De Rien eventually turned his mind towards soulful electronica and off-pop. Growing up as the son of an opera singer and a classical pianist, De Rien started playing drums and piano at the age of five. After performing with numerous classical orchestras, contemporary music ensembles and Jazz formations, he discovered the soul of Erykah Badu and Robert Glasper, before being fully absorbed by the groundbreaking sound of James Blake and SBTRKT, paving the way for his symbiotic blend of genres.
When salt and pepper were passed across the table of a French friend, the young artist heard the phrase “de rien” for the first time. It was used as a way of saying „you’re welcome“. Translated literally it means „it’s nothing“, which reflects a certain casualness that he liked ever since. Within De Rien’s tracks, he doesn’t try to impose anything on people but rather give them the opportunity to join the musical flow.
De Rien is also part of collaborative electronica duo Komplement, who, after playing quite a number of festivals, supported icelandic pop poet Àsgeir on his german tour in early 2019.
