Popular known as "Los Pitbulls" and "Los Reyes del Perreo," Puerto Rican reggaeton duo Alexis & Fido began performing in the early 2000s. From a very young age, Raúl Alexis Ortíz and Joel "Fido" Martínez were involved in the island's burgeoning reggaeton scene; the former made his debut in 1996 with the group Boricua Selecta while the latter made a name for himself as a producer on some of the genre's most iconic albums, including Yandel's Quién Contra Mí (2003), Wisin's El Sobreviviente (2004), and Daddy Yankee's international blockbuster Barrio Fino (2004). The Pitbulls, the pair's studio debut, was released in 2005 and quickly climbed to the top spot on Billboard's Top Latin Albums chart thanks to the Top 10 single "Eso Ehh!" It eventually sold over 200,000 units across the globe and received gold certification. Following the release of the singles compilation Los Reyes del Perreo in 2006, Alexis & Fido starred alongside Omarion, Melonie Díaz, and Rosa Arredondo in the 2007 musical drama Feel the Noise, produced by Jennifer López. Later that year, their sophomore effort Sobrenatural yielded the chart-topping singles "5 Letras" and "Soy Igual Que Tú," and received a Grammy nomination for Best Urban Music Album. They followed this success with 2009's Down to Earth and 2011's Perreología, which contained the Daddy Yankee collaboration "Rescate." Preceded by the hit single "Rompe Cintura," the album La Esencia shot straight to the top of the Latin Rhythm chart, becoming the first Number 1 record of their career. La Escuela, their sixth full-length, appeared in 2020 and featured cameos by Don Omar, Justin Quiles, and Baby Rasta y Gringo.
