Born on 26 September 1992 in Secaucus, New Jersy, Russell Vitale, who goes by Russ, is an American hip-hop performer who wrote rap numbers as a child and got into the music business after he moved to hip-hop centre Atlanta, Georgia. He started off distributing many tracks via the Internet and is a member of the rap group Diemon Crew. He signed a recording contract with Colombia Records in 2017 and his debut major-label solo release There's Really a Wolf went to number four on Billboard's Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums and Top Rap Albums charts and number seven on the Billboard 200. Featuring the likes of Snoop Dogg and Rick Ross, Zoo (2018) peaked at number two on the R&B/Hip-Hop and Rap charts and number four on the Billboard 200. The 2017 single "Losin' Control" went to number seven on the Hot R&B Songs Chart, number 21 on the Hot Rap Songs Chart and number 28 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs Chart. "Some Time" reached number 12 on the R&B Chart, "Wife You Up" number 16 and "Cherry Hill" number 19. "What They Want" reached number 33 on the R&B/Hip-Hop Chart and his 2019 release "Gun Lean" went to number nine on the UK Singles Chart. A prolific producer, he has put out a steady stream of free mixtapes over the years. In 2020, he dropped his fourteenth album to date, Shake the Snow Globe, which went to number four in the US. He ceased working with Columbia Records and released the Chomp EP as an independent artist in 2020, with Chomp 2 following in 2021. He made his way back into the Billboard charts in 2023 with Santiago, which went to number 12, propelled by the singles “See You Soon” and “No More.”
