Biografía

Singer, songwriter, and entertainer Gigliola Cinquetti was born on December 20, 1947, in Verona, Italy. She first discovered music at the age of 9 when she began playing the piano. At the age of 16, she won the prestigious Sanremo Festival with her song "Non Ho l'Età". This early victory allowed her to represent Italy at the Eurovision Song Contest in 1964 in Copenhagen, Denmark, The song gave Italy its first victory in this competition, which also made her the youngest artist to win: 16 years and 92 days. The song became an international hit, reaching the top of the charts in Italy, France, and Belgium. It was also a Top 5 hit in Germany, Ireland, the Netherlands, Norway, and South Africa. Gigliola Cinquetti continued to chart with singles in French - "L'Un d'entre vous" (1964), "Reste là" (1964), and "J'oublie" (1965) – as well as many Italian hits including “Ho Bisogno Di Vederti" (1965), "Vuoi" (1966), "Dio Come Ti Amo" (1966), "La Rosa Negra" (1967), and “La Pioggia” (1969). Gigliola Cinquetti made a return visit to Eurovision in 1974, where she finished second with her song "Si", only surpassed by ABBA who won the competition with "Waterloo". She continued to release albums and singles until the early 1990s, when she chose to shift focus from her music to a career as a television presenter and journalist. In 2022, there was a resurgence in popularity for her 1966 single, "Vuoi", which rose to Number 45 In Uruguay, Number 97 in Brazil, and Number 22 in Argentina.
