Asian Kung-Fu Generation are a J-pop band formed in Yokohama, Japan, in 1996 by singer and guitarist Masafumi Gotoh, guitarist Kensuke Kita and bassist, Takahiro Yamada joined soon after by drummer Kiyoshi Ijichi. They played locally and in 2000 released an EP with Caramelman. Two more EPs followed and in 2003 their album 'Kimi Tsunagi Five M' went to number five on Japan's Oricon albums chart. They have released ten studio albums, 13 video albums, 15 compilation albums and a concert album.
'Sol-fa' (2004) and 'World World World' (2006) topped the Japan albums chart while 'Fanclub' (2006), 'Surf Bungaku Kamakura' (2008), 'Magic Disk' (2010), 'Landmark' (2012), 'Wonder Future' (2015), 'Sol-fa 2016' (2016) and 'Home Town' (2018) all made the Top Ten. Their 2012 release 'Best Hit AKG' topped the chart. The single 'Marching Band' went to number ten on Billboard's Japan Hot 100 in 2011, 'Kakato De Ai Wo Uchinarase' (2012) reached number eight and 'RE: RE' (2016) peaked at number seven. Their tracks appear on several anime features and their 2019 release 'Domoro' is from the second television adaptation of the manga of the same name. In 2019, they embarked on a tour of Japan in support of the album 'Home Town'.
