"GOTOPO has given us a science fiction story not unlike those of N. K. Jemisin."
— Queen City Sounds.
GOTOPO is a colombian-venezuelan artist based in Berlin.
She debuted with Malembe, a single and music video that takes the viewer from pre-hispanic times to a pos-colonial present, with an elegant showcase of indigenous futurism:
it presents a timeline of America "since before it was America", as the artist quotes,
introducing GOTOPO's unique indigenous-futurist aesthetic and sound.
In September 2021 GOTOPO performed with 15 other musicians at the Opening Ceremony of the Ethnological Museum and Museum of Asian Art at the Humboldt Forum Berlin with audience members Frank-Walter Steinmeier, president of Germany and renowned author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie.
The artist currently works on an EP to be performed live starting this summer with her performance at MELT 2022.
