Baozi is a 22-year-old French artist with roots in Hong Kong. Her musical journey began at an
early age with violin and piano lessons, but she soon gravitated towards composing her own
music. At just 14, she discovered that she could produce music on her computer and record
both her guitar and vocals. This led to her first project under the name "g y l s," which quickly
gained attention, earning spots on "New Music Friday" playlists across Asia and being featured
in the Taiwanese editorial playlist "我的微醺夜" (My Chill Evening) with her song Circle of
Feelings.
At 18, Baozi moved from Hong Kong to Paris to pursue design studies. In Paris, she met her
boyfriend, who would later become her producer. Together, they embarked on a new, more
professional music project that aligned with her evolving artistic vision. In February 2022, Baozi
released her debut single, Too Bad. A few months later, she followed up with Blue, which
garnered significant attention on social media, motivating her to continue with this project and
release Camera in May 2023.
In 2023, Baozi relocated to the Netherlands for six months for her studies, a move that prompted a deep
personal transformation and introspection. During this period, she composed several songs that
will be featured on her debut EP Overstepped, set to release in January 2025. This project sees Baozi
confronting personal challenges with raw emotion and honesty, creating music that is both
deeply personal and powerfully emotive. Drawing inspiration from artists like Yaeji and Billie
Eilish, she pairs her introspective lyrics with upbeat, danceable rhythms and bright, energetic
sounds. For this EP, Baozi has leaned into electronic music, blending elements of House,
Techno, and pop.
As an emerging artist, Baozi is rapidly making her mark in the Parisian music scene. She
continues to refine her live performances, connecting with audiences through her music while
maintaining an active presence on social media. Her ability to naturally build and nurture a
relationship with her fans is a testament to her authenticity and growing influence.
