The fin. is a two-piece indie rock band from Kobe, Japan, comprising lead vocalist Yuto Uchino and bassist/former drummer Kaoru Nakazawa. Emerging in 2012 with guitarist Ryosuke Odagaki and original bassist Takayasu Taguchi, their first track "Faded Light" came out in November that year, preceding their debut EP Glowing Red on the Shore (2014). After dropping first full-length album Days With Uncertainty later that year, they played at SXSW in Austin, Texas, as part of the Japan Nite showcase, marking their first gig outside Japan and kickstarting their first U.S. tour. Relocating to London in September 2016, Taguchi left the group a few months later, seeing Kaoru step up as bass player. The duo’s second album, There, came out in Asia in March 2018, followed by a sold-out tour. The 2019 EP Wash Away paved the way for their third album, Outer Ego, featuring tracks like “Pale Blue” and “Afterglow.” With a style that mixes 80's-90's synth-pop and shoegaze with modern American indie-pop and chillwave, the duo have amassed a massive fanbase, opening for acts like The Last Shadow Puppets, Circa Waves, and MEW. In 2022, they released Acoustic Versions, an album featuring stripped-back versions of their popular tracks, dropping new single “SWANS,” in December the following year, which hit number 82 on the JWAVE charts.
