Formed in 1980 in Barranquilla by William Consuegra Iglesias and Sergio Amaris, Estrellas Vallenatas quickly emerged as a significant force in Colombian romantic vallenato. Their debut single, “Te Amo a Ti” (1981), featuring vocalist Miguel Patiño and penned by Amaris, marked their entry into the music scene. The group gained widespread acclaim in 1991 with “Obsesión,” performed by Ramiro Better, solidifying their status in the genre. This success was followed by the albums Sorprendentes (1992), which included hits like “Mi Tesorito” and “Cumbia de las Estrellas,” and Pídeme la Luna (1993), featuring tracks such as “Inspiración Divina” and “Mi Amigo el Amor.” After a period of reduced activity, Estrellas Vallenatas made a notable return in 2021 with the album Volvimos Pa’ Quedarnos, released under Café Records. This album featured songs like “Lloraré,” a tribute to the late Jorge Oñate, as well as “La Gordita,” “Papaya No Voy a Dar,” and “Soy Feliz,” all composed by Amaris. Throughout their career, the group has been recognized for their melodic compositions and has collaborated with various artists, maintaining a significant presence in the vallenato music scene.
