Born Jaime James on June 22nd, 1994 in Buenos Aires, singer-songwriter and record producer LOUTA initially made a name for himself as a DJ before bursting onto the Argentine scene in the late 2010s with a distinctive breed of Spanish-language off-pop and alternative hip-hop. Debuting in 2016 with a self-titled, self-released EP, he soon drummed up a loyal following, signing to Sony in 2018 ahead of the release of his debut studio album, INSERT. Preceded by the riotous, reggaeton-infused lead single “TODOS CON EL CELU”, the LP was praised by critics for its unorthodox fusion of alt-pop, trap, boom-bap and dubstep among other genres, picking up the coveted title of Best Alternative Pop Album at the Oscar Awards the following year. Swiftly returning with a flurry of light-hearted non-album singles including “TAU TAU”, “COCO SHANEL” and “NO TE COMAS LA PELI” to tide fans over, LOUTA simultaneously concentrated his efforts into a sophomore album, reemerging in 2020 with the ten-track effort 2030. Spawning the hit single “Amame”, the project thematically placed considerable emphasis on the challenges of relationships in a digital age. It was nominated for a 2020 Latin GRAMMY for Best Alternative Music Album, with close collaborator and former Calle 13 member Visitante also receiving a Producer of the Year nomination at the ceremony for his extensive instrumental contributions to the LP. Rounding off a prolific year, James returned in October 2020 with a new single, the low-slung and club-ready “USH.” LOUTA returned to the spotlight in 2022 with standout singles like “GUARACHA” and the Wos collaboration “Quereme,” followed by 2023 releases “VENENO” and “DIAMANTE,” which led to him opening for Taylor Swift during three sold-out dates of The Eras Tour in Buenos Aires. In May 2025, he released his fourth studio album Un Instante—anchored by singles such as “No Sé Quién Sos” and “Nunca Me Fui”—which showcased a more introspective, electronic-tinged sound and reaffirmed his position at the forefront of Argentina’s alternative pop scene.
