Public Domain was founded in 1995 in Ayr, Scotland, United Kingdom, and is a British electronic music group with a hard trance, trance and hard house style. The band was formed by DJs and producers James Allan, Mark Sherry, Alistair MacIsaac, David Forbes and Mallorca Lee; after line-up changes, James Allan and Neil Skinner (also MC Cyclone) joined the core line-up in 2002. Public Domain gained attention at the end of the 1990s with club and rave productions, but their greatest commercial success came in 2000 with the single "Operation Blade (Bass in the Place)" (2000), which achieved high chart positions in several countries - including the UK, Australia, Austria, Germany and Norway - and sold over a million copies internationally. In 2001, the album Hard Hop Superstars (2001) is released, which is the group's only documented studio album and brings together productions from the early phase. Further singles followed, including "Rock da Funky Beats" (2001) and "Too Many MCs" (2002), which also reached the British Top 40; Neil Skinner joined the group at this time. After the departure of David Forbes and Mallorca Lee in 2002, as well as Alistair MacIsaac, Allan and Skinner concentrate on live performances and further individual productions.
