The Poppy Family were a Canadian psych-pop group based in Vancouver, who formed in 1968. The band consisted of Susan Pesklevits, who later became known as Susan Jacks, Terry Jacks, and Craig McCaw. The trio met when Susan Jacks invited Terry Jacks to accompany her on rhythm guitar for a live performance. Their distinctive sound was completed with the addition of Satwant Singh on tabla drums. In 1968, they released their debut single "Beyond the Clouds" and in 1969, they achieved international success with "Which Way You Goin' Billy?", which reached number one in Canada and number two on the US Billboard Hot 100. Their self-titled debut album Which Way You Goin' Billy? was released in 1969. The band's second album, Poppy Seeds, was recorded with studio musicians after Satwant Singh and Craig McCaw left. Notable songs from this period include "Where Evil Grows" and "Good Friends?". The Poppy Family won two 1970 Gold Leaf Awards (the first Juno Awards) for "Which Way You Goin' Billy?". The group parted ways in 1972, with Susan Jacks and Terry Jacks pursuing solo careers.
