Leon Chavez Teixeiro

León Chávez Teixeiro, born Alfredo León Chávez y Teijeiro on April 11, 1936, in Colonia Guerrero, Ciudad de México, was a Mexican composer and musician. He began his musical career as a street musician and became involved in social activism from a young age. In 1968, he co-authored "Amigo ven" and participated in the student movement of that year. His single, "El gato/El abedul", was released with CBS Records in 1969. Chávez Teixeiro formed the group La piel and later the Grupo Urbano Pacheco, collaborating with artists such as Judith Reyes and Óscar Chávez. He released several albums including Canciones (1979) and Se va la vida, compañera (1981). His work influenced various independent music movements in Mexico. In 2014, he received the Premio Nacional Carlos Montemayor for his contributions to Mexican culture.
