Tranzas was formed in Guayaquil, Ecuador, in 1987 by Douglas Bastidas (guitarist‑vocalist), Troi Alvarado (bassist‑coros), Alfonso Vélez (drums), and Alberto Vicuña (keyboards). The group emerged from earlier high‑school rock ensembles and debuted at the 1987 Rock Total Salinas, where the single "Plástica" reached Number 1 on several national radio charts. Their first studio album, Sueño Astral was released in 1988 followed by Parte de Ti, in 1996 under Ifesa and Televisión Satelital; the track "Dile" dominated Ecuadorian airwaves for two months and earned a gold certification. In 1997 BMG Ariola signed Tranzas for Colombia, Bolivia, Peru, and Ecuador, and a re‑issued international edition of Parte de Ti further expanded their reach. The 1999 album Por Siempre, recorded in Miami, sold 75 000 copies and secured gold status in Ecuador and Bolivia. Subsequent releases, Serenata (2002) and Lo Que No Pude Decir (2005), continued to chart, with songs such as "Morí" featured in Mexican telenovelas. Tranzas disbanded in 2007 after the album Se Quedarán las Canciones. The band’s legacy includes multiple gold records, national radio awards, and recognition from the Ecuadorian government in 2012.
