Austrian harpist, lutenist, theorbist and guitarist Christina Pluhar, born in Graz in 1965, is best known for having founded the ensemble L'Arpeggiata in 2000. She studied early music repertoire at the Conservatory of The Hague (Netherlands) and at the Schola Cantorum Basilensis in Basel (Switzerland) with Hopkinson Smith, and Baroque harp with Maria Galassi in Milan. After attending masterclasses with Paul O'Dette and Andrew Lawrence-King, Christina Pluhar moved to Paris in 1992, performing with ensembles such as La Fenice, Hespérion XX, Les Musiciens du Louvre, Ricercar Consort, La Grande Ecurie et la Chambre du Roy and Cantus Cölln. In 2000, she founded L'Arpeggiata, an ensemble for early music on period instruments, whose repertoire, centered on the first age of the Baroque, forges links with traditional music, both noble and popular. In collaboration with soloists, she has produced numerous albums with this ensemble for the Alpha Productions, Virgin Classics, Naïve and Erato labels, and has received several awards from music critics. Christina Pluhar also taught baroque harp at the Royal Conservatory in Graz. Her recordings with L'Arpeggiata include La Tarantella - Antidotum Tarantulae (soundtrack to the film Tous les soleils, 2002), Via Crucis (2010), Monteverdi: Vespro della Beata Vergine (2011), Mediterraneo (2013), Orfeo Chamán (2016), Handel Goes Wild (2017), Alla Napoletana (2021), Wonder Women (2024), Terra Mater (2025) and La Torre del Oro (2026).
