The Wake

The Wake, an American gothic rock band from Columbus, Ohio, was formed in 1986 by vocalist Troy Payne and guitarist Richard Witherspoon. The band's first studio recording, "Procession", in 1987 using session musicians. Their single "Harlot" was released in 1990. In 1993, The Wake signed with Cleopatra Records and released their debut album Masked. The band's lineup evolved over the years, including the addition of bassist Steven Creighton and keyboardist Robert Brothers. Their EP Christine, released in 1995, featured a remix by Rosetta Stone and included the single "Christine", which broke onto the top ten Alternative Press's Dance Club charts for months. The Wake continued to release albums such as Nine Ways (1996) and collaborated with former Ministry engineer "Fluffy". The band went on hiatus in 2000 but reunited in 2010, releasing the single "Emily Closer" and later "Rusted" in 2013.
