José del Refugio Sánchez Saldaña, known as Cuco Sánchez, was born on May 3, 1921, in Altamira, Tamaulipas, Mexico. He began his career as a singer-songwriter and actor after moving to Santiago Tulyehualco, Ciudad de México with his mother and brother following his father's departure for military service. Initially working as a shepherd, Sánchez started writing poetry and composing melodies, eventually adopting the stage name Cuco Sánchez in 1937. His breakthrough came in 1939 with the release of "Mi chata", which propelled him to stardom. Throughout his career, he composed over 200 songs and contributed to numerous films, including "Fallaste corazón" (1968) and "El revólver sangriento" (1965). Notable albums include 24 Exitos Rancheros (1992), Toda Una Vida (1995), and Arrieros Somos (2001). Sánchez also appeared in various television series such as Simplemente María (1989-1990) and Esmeralda (1997). He passed away on October 5, 2000.
