Break Machine was a hip-hop group formed in New York, United States of America, in 1983. The band was founded by Keith Rodgers, a musician and former host of a rap-focused show called Bon Rock Live on the local radio station WHBI 105.9. In 1981, under the pseudonym Bon Rock, Rodgers released "Searching Rap". Two years later, he collaborated with French producers Jacques Morali and Henri Belolo, along with musician Fred Zarr, to form Break Machine. The group included three New York-based breakdancers: Lindsay Blake, Lindell Blake, and Cortez Jordan. Break Machine's debut album Break Dance Party (released as Break Machine in the UK) was a significant success, contributing to the global recognition of hip-hop culture. The single "Street Dance" from this album reached number 3 on the UK Singles Chart in March 1984 and topped the charts in Sweden and Norway. It also achieved notable positions in Germany and Italy. In France, the single spent two weeks on the charts and sold over a million copies. Other successful singles included "Break Dance Party" and "Are You Ready", which reached number 9 and number 27 respectively on the UK Singles Chart. The album itself peaked at number 17 on the UK Albums Chart. Break Machine's impact was further solidified by their world tours, where the three dancers performed extensively on television, popularizing breakdance globally.
