Rubel (Rubel Brisolla, born 1991 in Volta Redonda, Rio de Janeiro) is a Brazilian singer-songwriter, screenwriter, and director who emerged in the 2010s with an intimate MPB voice-and-guitar approach before steadily widening his palette. After moving to Rio de Janeiro as a child, he played in the band A Corleones during his teens and later studied cinema at PUC-Rio, a background that fed into the strongly visual framing of his later album eras. He broke through with the early album Pearl (2013), which established his confessional songwriting and introduced signature songs such as “Quando Bate Aquela Saudade.” Rubel expanded his sound on Casas (2018), a more arranged, rhythm-aware record that brought in rap-world guests including Emicida and Rincon Sapiência and earned a Latin Grammy nomination in the Portuguese-language rock/alternative field. In 2023, he pushed further into genre-mixing and collaborative writing with the double album AS PALAVRAS, VOL. 1 & 2 (2023), featuring guests such as Milton Nascimento, Bala Desejo, BK’ and MC Carol, and receiving a Latin Grammy nomination in Portuguese-language contemporary pop. He pivoted back toward stripped-down songwriting on Beleza. Mas agora a gente faz o que com isso? (2025), released alongside a connected audiovisual project, and highlighted that phase with “Carta de Maria,” later revisited as a duet version with Marina Sena (2025).
