Sweet Electra

Sweet Electra is Mexican music group from Guadalajara that was formed in 2000. Early members Giovanni Escalera and Venancio Almanza initially created "Nick Vega," later renamed "Billy Camarena." After its dissolution, Escalera and DJ Channel Dueñas formed Sweet Electra in 2002. Their debut album, Lying to Be Sweet, released under Nopal Beat Records, blended electronic music, deep house, trip hop beats, jazz, and bossa nova elements. The album included the single "Firefly" and the album was nominated for an LBE Music Award for Best New Alternative Artist. In 2007, their second album, CAMA, featured a stronger indie-rock influence, with the single "Shadow" in the Mexican film Eros Una Vez María. Sweet Electra's third album, When We Abandoned Earth (2009), showcased a nostalgic and dramatic orchestral electronic pop style. The band also released remix albums like When We Remixed Earth (2011) and a revisited version of CAMA, titled Sweet Electra.
