Alewya

Alewya Demmisse, known professionally as Alewya, was born in Saudi Arabia to an Egyptian father of Sudanese origin and an Ethiopian mother. Raised in Sudan before moving to the United Kingdom at age five, she grew up in West London. Her musical career began with the release of her debut single "Sweating" in mid-2020, produced by Busy Twist. In 2021, Alewya was included in NME's The NME 100: Essential Emergent Artists for 2021. Her second single "The Code", a collaboration with Moses Boyd, was released in March 2021. That summer, she toured the UK with Little Simz. In November 2021, Alewya performed "Ethiopia" from her EP Panther in Mode on A Colors Show.
