Born on September 5, 1939, in Cuencamé de Ceniceros, Durango, Lorenzo Hernández—professionally known as Lorenzo de Monteclaro—started his musical journey in the late 1950s by participating in the radio program Aficionados de los Ejidos and recording his first singles soon after. His breakthrough came in 1973 with the hit “El Ausente,” which led to a series of successful releases, including Chaparrita Pelo Largo (1977), Ese Señor de las Canas (1978), and Grandes Éxitos del Ausente (1979). Around this time, he also began appearing in Mexican cinema, starring in popular films such as Me Caí de la Nube (1974), Tierra Sangrienta (1979), and Las Tres Tumbas (1980), which strengthened his image as a representative of rural Mexican culture. In the 1980s, he expanded his sound with mariachi and banda, releasing Con Banda Sinaloense (1983), Hipócrita (1984), and Corridos Famosos (1987), as well as the bolero collection Boleros de Siempre con Banda Sinaloense (1988). The 1990s brought compilations like 20 de Colección (1994) and Mexicanísimo: 20 Éxitos (1995), keeping his legacy in circulation. In the 2000s, he continued to tour and record, including Estrellas y Relámpagos (2005) and Pesado Desde la Cantina (2010), performing live with his son Ricardo as part of his band. In 2020, he released the studio albums Pachangueando and Pachangueando, Vol. 2 through Remex Music, and followed up with the live album Palomeando Desde Torreón in November 2024, reaffirming his relevance and staying power after more than six decades in music.
