Barrio Pobre is a Mexican rock band from the eastern side of Mexico City, formed at the start of the 2000s and led by Mario Sánchez, known as Mario San, on vocals and guitar. Its original formation also included Manuel Sánchez on bass and Antonio Luna on vocals, while other musicians supported the group in its early stages. After an early appearance on the Radio Mexiquense program El Palomazo, Barrio Pobre became part of the rock urbano circuit, mixing street-level narratives with rock, rhythm and blues, and blues-rooted guitar work. The band released Sueños y Realidades in 2002 through Discos Denver, with “Toda la Noche,” “Tatuaje,” “Rol y Ron,” and “Ángel Perdido” becoming key songs from its early catalog. Barrio Pobre followed with Historias del Barrio in 2003, Los Choros del D.F., Vol. 1 and Los Choros del D.F., Vol. 2 in 2005, and Vivir Sin Ti in 2010, which included the live version “Toda la Noche en Directo.” The group remained active on the Mexican rock circuit and shared bills with acts such as El Tri, Haragán y Cía, Liran’ Roll, Interpuesto, and Charlie Monttana. Later releases included Espinas y Rosas in 2020, Transición and Tracción, Vol. 1 (Acústica) in 2021, XX Aniversario (En Vivo) in 2023, the Urbania collaboration De Camino En Camino and Sin Fronteras in 2024, and Que Siga El Rock in 2025.
