Von Wegen Lisbeth was founded in 2006 in Berlin's Steglitz district and has since become an absolute institution in the German-language indie and German pop scene. Originally formed as a school band, Matthias Rohde, Julian Zschäbitz, Dominik Zschäbitz, Robert Tischer and singer Julian Hölting took an academic hiatus during their studies to devote themselves primarily to music. The band first came to mass attention in 2014 as a support act for Cologne band AnnenMayKantereit, who they accompanied on their tour. After Von Wegen Lisbeth had already released an EP called Promo in 2012, the Extented Play successor Und plötzlich der Lachs was released in 2014. Their first commercial chart successes came in 2016 with the release of the LP Grande, which reached number 25 in Germany. Von Wegen Lisbeth, whose music is largely characterized by instruments they acquired themselves, such as a Casio keyboard, were not only awarded the German Musicians' Authors' Prize in 2017, but also received huge media attention with an ECHO in the category Best Video National ("Bitch"). Rohde, Hölting and co. are often compared to the Hamburg School and, in this context, to acts such as Tocotronic or Die Sterne, and have become real festival favorites, playing at the Appletree Garden Festival in Diepholz, Lower Saxony, and at the Bielefeld Campus Festival in 2018. The LP sophomore album sweetlilly93@hotmail.com will be released in 2019. The album, which deals with topics such as metropolitan gentrification, enters the top 30 sales lists in the entire DACH region. In 2020, the band presented their first live album, Von Wegen Lisbeth - Live in der Columbiahalle , before another EP, Opti 2021, expanded the indie pop interpreters' canon. The studio album EZ Aquarii followed in 2022, climbing to number 11 in the German charts. After a short break, another album, Strandbad Eldena, followed in December 2025. The album reaches number 26 in Germany.
