Donavon Frankenreiter

A native of Southern California, Donavon Frankenreiter established himself as a successful surfer before releasing his first solo album in 2004. He was born outside of downtown Los Angeles in Downey, California, on December 10, 1972. His surfing career began at an early age, with Donavon Frankenreiter securing a Billabong sponsorship and moving to Hawaii at only 14 years old. It was there that he met Jack Johnson, another surfing prodigy with musical talent. The two began playing music together, and when Johnson launched his Brushfire Records label in 2002, Donavon Frankenreiter was one of the first acts he signed. The self-titled debut album was released two years later, hitting number 169 on the Billboard 200 and number 29 in Australia (where it was soon certified gold). 2006's Move by Yourself was another gold-certified success in Australia, where it hit number 24 on the ARIA charts. He enjoyed the highest chart placements of his life with 2008's Pass It Around, which reached number 98 in America and number 16 in Australia. He then formed his own label, Liquid Tambourine Records, and continued releasing albums that merged surf-friendly folk music with Hawaiian instruments, jam band improvisation, and sharp songwriting. After issuing five albums with less commercial success during the 2010s, he returned to the charts with 2024's "I'll Come A-Runnin'," a collaboration with Ziggy Alberts that reached number 79 in Japan. Following that success, Donavon Frankenreiter announced the release of 2024’s Get Outta Your Mind, his first album release in five years.
