The Head And The Heart

Seattle indie folk band The Head and the Heart have enjoyed an upward trajectory in the music world since forming in 2009. It began by selling its own albums (packaged in handmade denim sleeves) at gigs and local record stores. Interest in the band grew so fast that stores often found themselves out of stock. After what was described as a frenzy of activity from recruiters eager to sign the band, they struck a deal with the Sub Pop label, which reissued the band's eponymous debut album. Thanks to the band's promotion at concerts and the widespread interest generated by an appearance on Conan O'Brien's late-night talk show, the album stayed in the Billboard 200 for ten weeks. The band gradually built up an audience by opening for acts such as Vampire Weekend, The Walkmen, Dave Matthews and Iron and Wine, which, combined with the use of a number of tracks from the album on TV shows, translated into record sales and chart positions. The album Signs of Light, released in 2016, reached the top 5 of the US charts and became the band's second consecutive top 10 album. The Head and the Heart followed up with Living Mirage (2019), a second album for Warner Bros. ranked No. 16 on the Billboard 200, with "Honeybee" as its standout track. The band then repeated its success on the Adult Alternative Airplay charts with the #1 "Virginia (Wind in the Night)" from Every Shade of Blue (2022), followed by "Arrow" from Aperture (2025).
