Indie folk and Americana singer, songwriter, and musician Jade Bird was born in Hexham, Northerumberland, England on October 1, 1997. Her family had moved to London when she was two, but after her parents divorced, she relocated to South Wales when she was 12. The change in her life inspired her to start writing songs. After honing her skills locally at an early age, she moved to London at the age of 16 to attend BRIT School in Croydon, graduating in 2016. After playing the folk circuit and posting videos on social media, she was discovered by Glassnote Records, who immediately signed her to the label. She went to tour in America with Brent Cobb, eventually playing a showcase at South by Southwest in Austin, Texas in 2017. She released her 2017 debut EP, Something American, in July 2017. The following year, the single "Lottery" reached the top of the Billboard Triple A chart, her first commercial success in the U.S. Two more singles followed in 2018: "Uh Huh" (which reached Number 3 on the Triple A chart) and “Love Has All Been Done Before”. Her self-titled debut album was released in April 2019 and featured two additional singles: "I Get No Joy" and "My Motto". At the end of 2020, Jade Bird released the single “Headstart,” which reached number 5 on the Triple A chart and was the first single to be lifted from her second album, Different Kinds of Light (2021). The album also included the singles “Houdini,” “Open Up the Heavens,” “Now is the Time,” and the title track. In January 2024, Jade Bird released the single “Burn the Hard Drive” (featuring electronic music artist / producer Mura Masa), which was followed two months later by “You’ve Fallen in Love Again.”
