The son of legendary guitar player Eddie Van Halen and Golden Globe Award-winning actress Valerie Bertinelli, Wolfgang Van Halen was born in Santa Monica, California, on March 16, 1991. He was named after composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and began his musical career as a drummer, often taking lesson from his uncle, Alex Van Halen. After transitioning to the bass guitar, he became a full-time member of his father's iconic rock band, Van Halen, in 2006. Only 15 years old at the time, Wolfgang Van Halen replaced the band's original bassist, Michael Anthony, and remained in the lineup until his father's death in October 2020. During that time, he also appeared on Van Halen's final studio album, A Different Kind of Truth. The record was released in 2012 and debuted at Number 1 on Billboard's Top Rock Albums chart, followed three years later by the concert album Tokyo Dome Live in Concert. Wolfgang Van Halen also toured and recorded with the metal band Tremonti, appearing on 2015's Cauterize and 2016's Dust before leaving the group during the late 2010s. Following his father's death and Van Halen's subsequent dissolution, he launched his solo project under the name Mammoth WVH. His first single, the Grammy-nominated "Distance," became a number 1 hit on the Billboard Mainstream Rock chart in 2020, with "Don't Back Down" topping the same chart in 2021. Mammoth WVH's self-titled album was then released in June 2021. In 2023, the single "Another Celebration at the End of the World" became Mammoth WVH's fourth Top 10 single on the Mainstream Rock chart. The song appeared on Mammoth WVH's second full-length album, Mammoth II, later that summer.
