Lancaster-born John Waite began his musical career as lead singer and bassist of The Babys. With two moderately successful singles - Isn't It Time and Everytime I Think Of You - and five albums, the band split in 1980 with Waite progressing with his solo career. His debut solo album, Ignition, didn't achieve great success in the charts, but his follow-up, No Brakes, did considerably better as it featured the single Missing You which topped the Billboard Singles Chart. After another couple of albums Waite formed supergroup Bad English with Ricky Phillips and Jonathan Cain from The Babys along with drummer Dean Castronovo and Journey's Neal Schon. The group's single When I See You Smile topped the Billboard Hot 100, but after conflicting interests and ambitions the group disbanded in 1992. Waite returned to solo work, releasing the album Rough And Tumble and touring with Ringo Starr & His All-Starr Band.
