Best known for the hits "From East to West" (UK number 13 in 1978) and "Souvenirs" (US number 41 in 1979), Voyage is actually a group of French studio musicians. Under this group name, musicians André ‘Slim’ Pezin, Marc Chantereau, Sauveur Mallia and Pierre-Alain Dahan, along with British vocalist Sylvia Mason-James, recorded the albums Voyage (1977) and Let's Fly Away (1978, No. 1 in the dance charts). Sylvia Mason-James left the group after the second album and the four musicians went on to make two more albums - Voyage 3 (1980) and Step Higher (1982) - as disco’s popularity faded. The compositions - mostly instrumental - reflected the skills of seasoned professionals who had worked behind some of the biggest names in French pop including Michel Sardou, Manu Dibango, Johnny Hallyday, Bernard Lavilliers, Léo Ferré, Nino Ferrer, and others. Along with Cerrone and Ottawan, Voyage was one of the best examples of French disco success. Drummer and percussionist Pierre-Alain Dahan died on December 23, 2013, at the age of 70. Guitarist ‘Slim’ Pezin - who had collaborated with Dahan and other Voyager bandmates on hundreds of sessions since the late 1960s - passed away on January 18, 2024, at the age of 78.
