Folk singer-songwriter Lizzy McAlpine was born Elizabeth Catherine McAlpine in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on September 21, 1999. She wrote her first songs when she was in primary school and later honed in on her creative talents at Boston's Berklee College of Music. After dropping out in junior year to pursue a career in music, she released her first EP, Indigo, in 2018. The following year, she relocated to Spain, where she wrote the bulk of her studio debut, Give Me a Minute. The album saw the light in August 2020 and quickly accrued millions of listens on streaming platforms, garnering acclaim from music critics and fans alike. In 2021, Lizzy McAlpine returned with a second extended play titled When the World Stopped Moving: The Live EP, followed by her late-night television debut on the show Jimmy Kimmel Live! with a live performance of her song "Erase Me." During this time, she also cultivated a powerful social media presence that considerably expanded her online audience. Five Seconds Flat, her sophomore effort, appeared in early 2022 and debuted at Number 5 on the Billboard Heatseekers chart, also reaching Number 9 on the Alternative New Artist Albums chart and Number 19 on the Top New Artist Albums chart. It also featured guest spots by frequent collaborator Jacob Collier and producer Finneas O'Connell. "Ceilings," one of the singles from the album, peaked at Number 82 on the UK Singles Chart and hit Number 45 in Ireland.
