Pierre Hugues José

Pierre Hugues José, often abbreviated PHJ, is a French rapper from Vesoul (Haute-Saône), born around 1990 under the name Jordy Blanc. Trained as a scientist, he obtained two masters degrees and a doctorate in neuroscience, working on neuroimaging. A neuroscience researcher, he has also been pursuing a musical career under the name Pierre Hugues José since 2019. With a phrasing tinged with his Franc-Comtois accent, PHJ asserts his vocal identity against the grain of rap or urban pop fashions, and develops his style by adopting a vintage look with colorful glasses. His lyrics, full of absurd references and humor, are a hit on social networks and listening platforms. Following the release of his first single "Méchant", Pierre Hugues José made a notable appearance at the Printemps de Bourges Inouïs festival in 2022, and in 2023 unveiled the five-track EP Comment Qu'C'Est? In October 2024, a new EP was released, entitled L'Ecole des Femmes, followed by the singles "La Baie vitrée" and "Notification préférée" in 2025. Two years after its release, the Comment Qu'C'Est EP appears at number 112 on the French physical sales chart.
