When The Osmonds struck it big as one of the most famous teen acts of the early 1970s, Donny Osmond was by far the most identifiable and popular member, going on to gain further success as a solo star and in a duo with his sister Marie. From a devoutly religious Mormon family, he first began singing barbershop harmonies with his brothers, who got their big break on the Andy Williams TV show, Donny making his TV debut singing You Are My Sunshine at the age of five. As further TV shows followed, Donny's clean-cut image endeared him to teenagers and family audiences alike with hits like Crazy Horses and Down By The Lazy River. He launched his solo career in 1971 with Sweet & Innocent in 1971, though his most famous hit is Puppy Love from the same year, followed by Go Away Little Girl and Twelfth Of Never. He reinvented himself as a more serious act through the 1980s, had success with themed albums of Christmas songs and songs from Broadway musicals, and continued to perform with sister Marie. He also moved into theatre, appearing in shows such as Little Johnny Jones and Joseph And The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. In 2004 Donny returned to the UK charts with Breeze On By, co-written with Gary Barlow of Take That, and in 2011 he was working on a new album with Todd Rundgren.
